2009 Committee, Council, and Panel Application and Appointment Process Now Open
Committee, council, and panel leadership appointments will be made by NLC first vice president Kathleen Novak (Mayor, Northglenn, CO), prior to the 2008 Congress of Cities in Orlando, FL. In making her 2009 chair and vice chair appointments, Mayor Novak, in her role as incoming NLC President, will factor in commitment to NLC, knowledge of committee issues, and a willingness to give both the time and energy necessary to lead the standing groups. Mayor Novak affirmed her commitment to NLC's long-standing tradition to appoint a leadership team that reflects the diversity of NLC's membership to the maximum extent possible. NLC Officers and Board of Directors NLC President Cynthia McCollum, Council Member, Madison, AL, will appoint a 14-member Nominating Committee that will be responsible for recommending a slate of Officers and Board members to lead NLC in 2009. Next year's leaders will be elected during the annual business meeting at the Congress of Cities and Exposition in Orlando, FL, on Saturday, November 15th. The members of the 2008 NLC Nominating Committee will be announced in mid-September in Nation's Cities Weekly and posted here on this website.
All candidates for 2009 NLC Officer and Board of Director positions should indicate plans to run for office by completing a Candidate Data Form, which is used to ensure that the Nominating Committee has consistent backfound information on all candidates. All individuals interested in running for NLC office are urged to contact their state municipal league for advice, guidance, and support. Candidate Data Forms must be submitted not later than 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at the Congress of Cities in Orlando.
Up until October 31, 2008, candidates are encouraged to sumbmit (by e-mail, fax, or mail) their application forms to the Executive Office at the NLC Headquarters in Washington, DC. The Candidate Data Form provides more detailed information on submitting applications.
