The U.S. Census Bureau measures the speed of population growth in cities in (at least) two ways -- fastest numerical growth of population and greatest percentage gain of population. New Orleans had the highest percentage rate of population increase (13.8%) among cities with populations of 100,000 or more in the latest estimates (July 1, 2006 though July 1, 2007). The largest numerical increase in population for July 1, 2006 through July 1, 2007 was in Houston, Texas. More detailed analysis of these population changes can be found on the Census Bureau Website.
