The course is designed to provide a comprehensive overview to public/private sector officials with the base skills and knowledge needed to develop affordable housing targeting residents with incomes ranging from 60% to 120% of the Area Median Income (AMI). This course covers the entire real estate development process for multi-family housing, from initial concept and land acquisition to financing, construction, and project completion, focusing on creating equitable and sustainable housing solutions.
Participants can expect to delve into critical areas such as financial modeling, site analysis, securing public and private funding, and navigating regulatory requirements. The course also emphasizes the importance of building a robust network of partners and professionals, offering insights into collaborating effectively with stakeholders, including government agencies, financial institutions, and community organizations.
The program includes practical workshops, case studies, and mentorship opportunities to enable participants to apply their learning to real-world scenarios. At the end of the course, attendees will have a solid understanding of the intricacies of developing affordable housing projects that meet the needs of mixed-income communities and the tools to manage and execute such projects successfully. About the Instructor
Courtney D. Pogue, CCIM, CEcD, CRE, is a nationally recognized economic development and real estate leader with over 20 years of experience driving transformational community growth. He serves as Senior Director for the Supporting Empowered Emerging Developer (SEED) Academy at Grow America, focusing on training emerging real estate developers to foster equitable development across the United States.
Previously, Mr. Pogue held key leadership roles, including Director of Economic and Community Development for Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee, and Director of Economic Development for the City of Dallas, Texas, where he facilitated over $2.8 billion in private investment and secured commitments for more than 15,000 jobs and 3,000 units of housing. He also served as Director of Economic Development for Clayton County, Georgia, and Deputy Director for Cook County, Illinois.
As the founder and president of Waterworks Group, an economic development and real estate advisory firm, he has contributed to developing over $500 million in projects and secured more than $150 million in public subsidies for housing and economic development projects. Mr. Pogue holds an MBA from the University of Notre Dame, an MLS from Vanderbilt University Law School, and a BBA from Howard University. His finance, public policy, and real estate development expertise underscores his commitment to equitable economic growth and sustainable development.
