Federal Action Agenda
NLC supports the U.S. Census Bureau’s mission to “serve as the nation’s leading provider of quality data about its people and economy.” We also understand the many ways in which Census Bureau data impact a city, town or village.
An accurate count of your community through the 2020 Census is essential. The Census determines the allocation of more than $1.5 trillion in federal funding across states, counties and cities. This historic process helps us redraw our districts and fundamentally better understand our communities

Extension of 2020 Census Deadlines
NLC calls on Congress to extend the statutory deadlines for 2020 Census apportionment and redistricting data as part of the next coronavirus relief bill, in order to give the Census Bureau “adequate time” to complete the decennial headcount. This bipartisan request was led by Senators Brian Schatz (D-HI), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK) and signed by 47 Senators.
