WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, President Biden issued an executive order to reduce gun violence by strengthening background checks. In response, National League of Cities (NLC) CEO and Executive Director Clarence E. Anthony issued the following statement:
“City leaders are on the frontlines of public safety, whether it’s reducing violent crime or leading their communities in the wake of a mass shooting. As such, the National League of Cities supports President Biden’s executive order aimed at increasing background checks and keeping guns out of the hands of those inflicting violence in communities throughout America. While the ultimate goal is federal universal background check legislation, this is a step in the right direction.”
