NLC Statement on Proposed Appropriations Package

March 5, 2024 - (2 min read)

The National League of Cities issued the following statement on release of the Appropriations Committee funding proposal:

The National League of Cities (NLC) strongly supports the appropriations package scheduled to be voted on this week, which will finalize FY24 funding levels for many of the agencies, grants, and aid programs that most directly assist local governments, including the U.S. Departments of Housing, Transportation, Commerce, Interior, and Agriculture,” said NLC CEO and Executive Director Clarence Anthony. “While the package contains a mix of positive and negative funding outcomes among the catalog of federal grants and aid available to local governments, NLC and local leaders have been calling for budgetary certainty from the federal government so that municipalities know how much federal funding they can expect as they formulate their budgets. We are grateful to Speaker Johnson, House Minority Leader Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Schumer, and Senate Minority Leader McConnell for demonstrating bipartisan leadership, along with House Appropriations Chairwoman Granger and Ranking Member DeLauro and Senate Appropriations Chair Murray and Vice Chair Collins. We urge members of Congress to vote yes on advancing the bill.
