Washington, D.C. – The National League of Cities (NLC) has established a 15-member Research Advisory Committee to support and provide data-informed research to local governments. The Committee met during the Congressional City Conference in Washington, DC.
During its meeting, the Research Advisory Committee outlined how it will support local governments’ data needs, including building data literacy among local elected officials and promoting a systems-based approach to municipal policymaking. Members of the committee include researchers, academics, issue experts as well as think tanks.
“To foster strong cities of the future, local leaders need to be on the cutting edge today,” NLC CEO and Executive Director Clarence Anthony said. “As we celebrate 100 years of the National League of Cities, we are proud to launch our new Research Advisory Committee, which will ensure NLC is providing local governments with the up-to-date data and research they need to address the most pressing issues of the next century.”
The following individuals were appointed to the Research Advisory Committee:
- Adam Brown: City Manager, Keizer, OR
- Aditi Bussells: Councilwoman, Columbia, SC
- Claire Chan: Senior Research Analyst, Georgia Municipal Association
- Mayor Malik Evans: Rochester, NY
- Tracy Gordon: Codirector, Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center
- Bradley Hardy: Associate Professor, Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy
- Craig Maher: Director, School of Public Administration, University of Nebraska Omaha
- Justin Marlowe: Research Professor & Director of the Center for Municipal Finance, University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy
- Katie Martin: Project Director, Philadelphia Research and Policy Initiative, The Pew Charitable Trusts
- Erin Mullenix: Research Director, Iowa League of Cities
- Mayor Kim Norton: Rochester, MN
- Andre Perry: Senior Fellow, Brookings Metro, The Brookings Institution
- Mayor Stephanie Piko: Centennial, CO
- Peter Pirnejad: City Manager, Los Altos Hills, CA
