“At the heart of our democratic system of government is the bedrock principle that we settle disagreements by voting, not with violence,” said NLC CEO and Executive Director Clarence Anthony. “As Americans, we must stand together and denounce political violence in all forms. Today’s attack was an attack on all of us and all that we hold sacred. I know that I speak for all of our nation’s local leaders when I say how thankful I am that former President Trump is safe. Sadly, today’s violence is not the first. In a recent NLC study, more than eight in ten local officials reported experiencing some form of harassment, threats and violence. There is no place for this in America, and in this we are all united.”
