MissionSquare Retirement Honored with 2024 NLC Service to Cities Award

Washington, D.C. – The National League of Cities (NLC) has awarded MissionSquare Retirement the prestigious 2024 NLC Service to Cities Award. This recognition, presented by NLC’s First Vice President, Mayor Steve Patterson, at NLC’s annual City Summit in Tampa, Florida, highlights MissionSquare Retirement’s exceptional contributions to building stronger, more resilient and equitable communities across the country. 

Since its founding in 1972 as ICMA-RC, MissionSquare Retirement has been a steadfast partner to public service employees, dedicating its mission to advancing civic engagement, financial wellness and leadership development. The organization’s groundbreaking initiatives, including the MissionSquare Foundation, Memorial Scholarship Fund, and Culture of Service, embody its commitment to community support and empowerment.

The MissionSquare Foundation has demonstrated remarkable impact through its support of programs like the Youth and Government initiative, which has expanded to 13 states and the District of Columbia, fostering civic-mindedness and leadership in thousands of students. Additionally, its partnerships with Junior Achievement and other organizations have enhanced financial literacy for youth nationwide.

In 2024 alone, MissionSquare Retierement awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to the families of fallen public service employees and continued its tradition of supporting community programs through volunteer efforts and partnerships addressing homelessness, education, and economic resilience. 

This award reinforces MissionSquare Retirement’s legacy of service and innovation in public sector retirement and community engagement, marking over a decade of impactful collaboration with NLC as an Enterprise Partner.
