As American leaders gather in Washington, DC to celebrate the life of former President Jimmy Carter, National League of Cities (NLC) President Mayor Steve Patterson of Athens, Ohio reflects on the former president’s life and service with the following statement:
“The National League of Cities joins the nation in saying goodbye to and thanking former President Jimmy Carter for his life of service. He was a dedicated public servant during his time in elected office, as a Naval officer and after he left the White House, always working tirelessly to improve the quality of life for millions of people here in the U.S. and around the world. Mr. Carter set an example of leadership across the world stage, but never forgot the lessons learned in his humble upbringing in Plains, Georgia. On behalf of America’s local leaders, we thank him for his lifetime of work and remain inspired by his legacy.”
