WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National League of Cities (NLC) and DC Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the formation of a new advisory group, America’s Housing Comeback, that will bring public and private-sector representatives to the table to accelerate, amplify and highlight the housing successes taking place in cities across the U.S.
America’s Housing Comeback aims to accelerate the housing successes of local governments using the solutions, systems and partnerships approach outlined in the Housing Supply Accelerator Playbook. An initiative of the Housing Supply Accelerator, America’s Housing Comeback Advisory Group will focus on building federal-local and public-private partnerships to support local governments ongoing housing supply efforts and ignite a federal focus on policy solutions for addressing the nation’s housing shortage.
By improving federal programs that support local governments and the private sector, America’s Housing Comeback will accelerate promising and proven strategies, such as those documented in the Housing Supply Accelerator Playbook, to support local governments’ efforts to close the housing supply gap in cities and towns.
“Housing is a top issue for communities regardless of their region or size, and local leaders nationwide are ready to build the partnerships necessary to solve this issue,” said Clarence E. Anthony, CEO and Executive Director of the National League of Cities. “NLC is thrilled to support the America’s Housing Comeback Advisory Group. Together, we are working to build a table big enough for our local leaders, the private sector and our federal partners to collaborate and ensure we are all aligned to solve this national challenge together.”
NLC President Mayor Steve Patterson of Athens, OH announced today that Mayor Muriel Bowser and Mayor Mark Shepherd of Clearfield, UT, will serve as co-chairs of America’s Housing Comeback Advisory Group.
“The housing challenges facing our cities require bold solutions. Washington, DC is proud to lead this national conversation, and we look forward to bringing together solutions and ideas from across the country,” said Mayor Bowser. “With historic investments in affordable housing and innovative solutions like office-to-housing conversions, we are demonstrating what’s possible. The America’s Housing Comeback initiative is an opportunity to showcase our progress, share ideas, and bring more people to the table to be part of this critical work.”
America’s Housing Comeback Advisory Group will be made up of co-chairs representing the public and private sector essential to the housing supply pipeline.
Through improved and enhanced public-private partnership, the America’s Housing Comeback’s Advisory Group will unite a diverse coalition of stakeholders to collaborate and advance solutions to address the nation’s housing shortage.
