As the United States honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., National League of Cities CEO and Executive Director Clarence Anthony shared his reflections on this historic federal holiday:
“Martin Luther King, Jr. Day reminds me of who we aspire to be as a nation, and how much progress we can all make when we collectively work to achieve a better vision of the future. While it took a long 17 years for all 50 states to officially recognize MLK Day as a holiday, this day stands as an important opportunity to recognize our country’s challenging history with race and for all of us to recommit to doing our part to delivering on our vision of a better tomorrow. Today, as we look back on his legacy, I’m embracing the hope and the optimism that Dr. King had for America and for all of our communities.”
