Washington, D.C. – The National League of Cities (NLC), in partnership with Professional Development Academy (PDA), is proud to announce the launch of the NLC High Performance Leadership Academy, a transformative 12-week online program designed to elevate the leadership skills of city leaders across the nation.

Offered through PDA’s learning management platform, this innovative program offers local officials access to expert leadership training, empowering leaders to address the complex challenges faced in their communities.

“NLC’s partnership with Professional Development Academy was built on our shared commitment to strengthening local leadership and driving innovative solutions for local governments,” said Clarence E. Anthony, CEO and Executive Director of the National League of Cities. “The NLC High Performance Leadership Academy reflects our dedication to fulfilling this commitment, providing city officials with a tangible opportunity to take their leadership skills to the next level in ways that will really benefit their communities. I am truly excited about this partnership and encourage local leaders to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to invest in their city teams.”

NLC’s High Performance Leadership Academy offers relevant, practical and immediately actionable materials that serve as a leadership field guide for both existing and emerging leaders. The program is entirely online, designed to fit the busy schedules of government officials, and is led by an expert leadership coach with a world-class faculty of prominent public, private and academic sector leaders. Local officials and staff from NLC member cities can participate in various academy programs, including:

  • NLC High Performance Leadership
  • NLC Enterprise Cybersecurity Leadership
  • NLC Leading On Purpose
  • NLC AI Leadership Academy

“Professional Development Academy is very excited to initiate our partnership with NLC through the launch of this new program,” said Dr. Tim Rahschulte, co-founder of the Professional Development Academy and EVP at GovExec. “NLC has a more than 100-year-old track record of working with city officials on how to best shape beneficial policy. With this academy, we aim to help them continue to evolve that mission with new ways of reaching and collaborating with these current and future leaders.”

The standard price to participate in the 12-week program is $2,995 per person. However, thanks to significant scholarship funding secured through this partnership, NLC members will benefit from an exclusive reduced rate of $1,000 per person for the first five leaders enrolled. This funding helps to ensure the program is accessible to all city leaders from NLC member cities, towns or villages across the country. Additional scholarships and benefits are available for larger groups of enrollees.

The first session begins in April 2025, with additional sessions scheduled for August, September and January 2026. To learn more, visit nlc.org/partner/pda.
