Middle mile broadband infrastructure is a critical and often-overlooked component of local efforts to close the digital divide, but local leaders have a unique opportunity to leverage new sources of federal funding and increased interest from utilities and cooperatives to get high-bandwidth broadband infrastructure closer to residents and businesses. This brief highlights best practices for planning for middle mile infrastructure and lessons learned from three different middle mile projects from around the United States.
