Recycle Right Campaign Toolkit

If recycling is a priority in your community, it’s time to get back to the basics of good recycling!  

While resident engagement is key to the success of a city’s recycling program, recent surveys show that residents lack confidence in their ability to recycle, find it confusing and question its impact. 

The Recycle Right Toolkit, brought to you by NLC and WM (formerly Waste Management) as part of the Recycle Right Campaign, is designed to be an approachable, open-source, “plug-and-play” guide for municipal leaders to help residents overcome their lack of confidence in recycling by supporting and encouraging proper recycling practices.   

The toolkit includes valuable tools and resources, including collateral for local leaders to clearly communicate what items should and should not be recycled, resources to show that recycling is real and impactful, and suggestions for personalizing recycling efforts and engaging with the community. 

While effective recycling is a critical component, it is most impactful when integrated with broader sustainability efforts. These holistic initiatives are crucial for addressing climate change and creating healthy, resilient and thriving communities. By taking the Recycle Right Pledge and utilizing the tools and resources provided in this toolkit, city leaders are one step closer to supporting and encouraging a community of conscious residents empowered to Recycle Right!
