Not all children are able to experience the benefits of access to nature. Inequities in park and housing development, unequal investments in facilities and nature access and hiring, stereotypical assumptions and disregard for cultural differences in how to connect with nature all contribute to systems of inequity.
This brief from Cities Connecting Children to Nature (CCCN), a joint initiative of the National League of Cities and the Children & Nature Network, outlines definitions and principles for advancing equity and provides examples of programs’ progress and actions local leaders can take to increase children’s access to nature equitably.
